Assalaamualaykum, I lived in Cario and studied Arabic for a year two years ago. I always intended to study at azhar but I was trying to find a way to study privately and then to enrol directly into the university (rather than spending several years in the college and secondary school system). I found it difficult to find a teacher who could teach me the curriculum and my Arabic is still not up to standard. I'm planning on returning again this year in shaa Allah. Would you recommend that I just get into the azhar system regardless of the level or keep trying to find something privately? JazakaAllah khayr
ReplyDeleteWa alaikum salaam
DeletePray you are well.
Unfortunately it is not possible for a student to go directly into the university. They have to first enter the college/secondary school system. The number of years one spends there is determined by the students current level, so for some it could be shorter than it may for others.
The best thing for you to do would be to immediately submit your name once you get to Cairo. Nowadays it takes approximately 9-12 months for students names to appear on the acceptance list. In this time you can work on improving your Arabic with a private teacher and prepare yourself for the entrance exams. If you work hard this should be sufficient time for you to develop your Arabic enough to achieve a good level in the entrance exams. If you do well in the exams and manage to enter the Thanawiyah you may only have to spend 1-2 years in the ma'had before entering the university
May Allah make it easy for you
Sorry brother but I have a few questions once again,
ReplyDelete1. Do cops go to students houses /apartments to check on their visa status?
2. After completing phase 1 of al ibaanah would one be fluent in speaking because I have read they do lots of grammar maybe even at the expense of Speaking? And how long does phase 1 lasts for?
3. If one frequents the masaajid would one get arrested /detained?
4. Are there places where they teach Quran and tajweed for free and do they issue ijazah? And are they salafi? And where are they located?
5. And finally is the tap water safe to drink? If not, how much does bottled water cost?
Jazak Allahu Khayran
I'm Egyptian and I never drink tap water. Bottled water is very cheap. You can subscribe to services where they send you filtered water every week.
DeleteYou won't get arrested for merely frequenting the masjid. However, if you draw attention to yourself you might bring unnecessary attention to yourself. Of all the brothers i've known or known of who have studied in Egypt, only 3 were questioned by the police and held in the station for some time. Overall it is pretty safe.
Regarding Quran, the brothers have a page about that. Al haramain is run by salafis and there are many salafi private teachers who give ijazah. Once you arrive in Egypt and network with the western brothers they'll point you in the right direction.
As for Al ibaanah, it will depend largely on your own hard work. What matters more than the institute is what you do outside of class. Are you going to revise, practice your arabic, read arabic books and attend/listen to Arabic lectures or are you going to backbite people with your Western friends whilst drinking sugar cane juice?
Assalamu Alaikum,
ReplyDeleteI was told there is a whatsapp group for brothers who intend to study in Egypt? How can I join it?

Assalamualaikum. This might be a strange one but is marrying an Egyptian viable or possible?
ReplyDeleteWhy on earth would anyone one marry and Egyptian. I have had a few friends that did and they say they women made their life's hell. They arent religious as you would think. Also if you think its going to help you stay in egypt by marrying one then that is a no. I knew a person who married one and had a kid with them It did not help them. They still had to apply for a foreigner visa. Now the child had duel citizenship but parent nope. Do you self a favor and if you are going to study then do so but dont get to friendly with the Egyptian people. this is the rule most of us foreigners follow
DeletePeace be upon you dear brother.
ReplyDeleteI have a question please. Actually I wish to go in Egypt to study arabic language at Al-Ibanaah Arabic center, then to automatically get into Al azar University well knowing I already have the equivalent of Egypt high school and licence diploma. Now I wanna know if that can be possible, if not what would be an eventual procedures to follow?
Thanks in advance!
